The new BMW i8 is set to arrive in Ireland in July, with prices starting from €136,430.

The 1.5-litre three cylinder plug-in petrol hybrid is the most advanced sports car ever produced by the German company.

With 362hp, the BMW i8 has a top speed of 250kph and can accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.4seconds.

The electric motor has a range of 37km for everyday driving, with a top speed of 120kph on electric power.

It can be charged from a domestic power socket, one of ESB eCars public charging stations or a BMW i wallbox.

BMW says it can be charged from zero to 80 per cent via the optional wallbox in less than two hours.

The car will be supplied with a standard 10amp/2.4kW five metre charging cable, which can be used with a three-pin socket.

BMW says charging using this mechanism will take less than three hours to go from 0-80 per cent.

The i8 will be available in a choice of four colours, three of which have been specially developed for the BMW i range.

The occupants in this 2+2 seater sit low down in typical sports car style and the leather trim of the seat surfaces extends to the instrument panel, parts of the centre console and the interior door panels.

The BMW i8 will be available in Ireland from July, with Joe Duffy Motors the exclusive BMW i agent for Ireland.

Prices for the BMW i8 start from €136,430 OTR. This price includes the SEAI Grant of €5,000 and VRT Relief of €2,500.
