BMW has created a new car segment for the new BMW X4, which is expected in Ireland in July.

Describing it as a ‘sports activity coupe’, BMW says the new model ‘blends the hallmark features of the successful BMW X family with the sporting elegance of a classical coupe’.

The new model is based on the BMW X3 platform, but the driver and front seat passenger sit 20mm closer to the ground. BMW says the X4 offers a spacious cabin, with seating for up to five people.

A choice of petrol and diesel engines will be available, ranging from 184hp to 313hp. The BMW X4 xDrive35i is the flagship petrol engine. It has emissions of 193g/km and can accelerate from 0-100kph in 5.5seconds.

Driver aids in the new BMW X4 include full colour head up display, lane departure warning, collision warning system, active cruise control with Stop & Go, and preventative pedestrian protection. Drivers can also sign up to Real Time Traffic Information.

Meanwhile, infotainment-wise, Facebook, Twitter, and music platforms Deezer and Napster, as well as AUPEO! personalised internet radio can also be easily accessed.

The new BMW X4 is expected in Ireland in the summer with prices starting from €57,720. Specification and further pricing will be announced closer to launch.
