Honda has revealed its micro-sized short distance Electric Vehicle commuter, the Micro Commuter Prototype.
Based on the Micro Commuter Concept unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, this prototype has cabin space to seat a driver and two children or, modifying the rear seat, an adult passenger.
The battery, motor and control unit in the prototype are housed under the floor and in the rear space and a user-owned tablet will be used for applications such as meter display, audio and back-up camera display and navigation.
The tablet’s battery can be charged using solar cells on the vehicle roof. Honda is also researching on-board solar energy to help driving.
Honda says the Micro Commuter Prototype has a maximum speed of 80kph and a range of 60km and its Lithium-ion battery can be charged in less than three hours
The Japanese car company will begin testing the vehicle in its home country next year, to demonstrate its potential in everyday short distance travel for young families, senior citizens, commuting, short distance travel and car shares.
