Ireland is the first European market to get the new Honda Civic, which arrives here in mid-December

The new Honda Civic is on its way and Irish drivers will the first to get their hands on it.

The 1.6 i-DTEC will arrive here in mid-December and will be priced from €23,695 for the SE grade.

This trim offers alloy wheels, CD with remote audio controls, climate control air conditioning, electric windows, alarm, and idle stop as standard. The higher specced ES and EX trims will also be available.

The 1.6 i-DTEC 120hp is the first in the Earth Dreams Technology range and Honda believes it offers better driving performance and class leading environmental performance.

Honda says the Band A diesel engine is the lightest of its type in the world – the Civic produces just 94g of CO2/km.

Managing Director of Universal Honda Ltd, Adrian Cole believes the new 1.6-litre Civic is a ‘game changer’ for Honda and he looks forward to taking on market leaders such as the Ford Focus and the Volkswagen Golf.

He said: ‘[It] positions Civic in the volume mainstream of the family hatchback segment which accounts for three out of every 10 cars sold in the Irish market.

He added: ‘We are entering an exciting period of growth for Honda in the Irish market, albeit in a very challenging trading environment.

‘We are confident that through the introduction of the new ‘Earth Dreams Technology’ 1.6 litre diesel engine in the Civic range and its addition to the CR-V range in the autumn of 2013 that Honda is well positioned to achieve significant growth in 2013 and beyond.’
