Chevrolet has announced details of its most powerful standard car ever, with the unveiling of the all new 2014 Corvette Stingray.

Chevrolet claims the estimated 450hp 6.2-litre LT1 V-8 engine can accelerate from 0-100kph in less than four seconds.

The new model is almost a complete departure from the previous generation Corvette – both inside and out, featuring an all new frame and chassis and a new powertrain.

Inside, the cabin contains hand-wrapped leather materials, aluminium and carbon fibre, two new seat options and dual eight-inch screens for driver/infotainment data.

A new seven-speed manual transmission has Active Rev Matching that matches engine speed for perfect gear change and a five-position Drive Mode Selector which tailors the ride to the motorist’s environment.

Launching the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Motor Show, Corvette chief engineer, Tadge Juechter said: ‘We believe the Corvette represents the future of modern performance cars because it delivers more power, more driving excitement and better fuel efficiency.

‘The result is better performance by every measure. The 2014 Corvette delivers the fastest acceleration, the most cornering grip, the most track capability, the best braking performance and what we expect to be the best fuel economy ever for a standard Corvette.’

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is expected to go on sale later this year.
