The 21st Century Beetle is all grown up and has now arrived in Ireland.
Volkswagen says the new Beetle is more affordable and accessible to drivers and offers ‘an emotional, sporty and practical everyday driving experience’.
The new Volkswagen Beetle is available with a number of engine options, including a new 1.6-litre 105bph diesel, which has emissions of 113g/km, putting it in Tax Band A.
Volkswagen claims this engine is capable of 1,279km on a single tank, which means that you can drive from Dublin, to Cork, to Galway, to Belfast, to Dublin and down to Cork again.
The Beetle is also available with a 1.4-litre 160bph TSI (petrol) engine, which can accelerate from 0-100kph in 8.3seconds.
A 1.2 105bhp TSI engine is also on offer, as is a 2.0-litre TDi 140bhp diesel.
A roomy coupe, VW claims the new Beetle can seat four comfortably and its boot has 905litres of cargo space.
A panoramic tilt/slide sunroof and a 400 Watt Fender sound system are available as options, as are Bluetooth technology, leather upholstery and keyless access with push button start.
The first assembly line outside of Germany to produce the Beetle was in Ballsbridge in Dublin, where Ballsbridge Motors now stands.
Brand Director Volkswagen Ireland, John Donegan said that he believes this third generation Beetle will ‘set pulses racing amongst hardcore Beetle aficionados and with a new crop of Beetle lovers’.
He added: ‘For all intents and purposes the Beetle has grown up.
‘All that was eye catching about the icon has been retained and refined with cutting edge modern driving technology.
‘Now we have an agile, driver-orientated coupe that offers exceptional features and premium options, all at very competitive pricing.’
