Nissan is aiming for the heart of the family hatchback market with the new Nissan Pulsar, which launches in the autumn.

The Japanese car company says the five-door hatch ‘distils Nissan’s innovation and dynamism into an exciting new package’.

It adds: ‘The Pulsar’s introduction highlights Nissan’s ambition and to deliver intelligent design and technical innovations to a wider audience.’

The Pulsar will be available with a range of advanced technologies, including emergency braking, lane departure warning, moving object detection and blind spot monitor.

Infotainment-wise, the Pulsar carries the NissanConnect system, with full smartphone integration.

Externally, it has energy efficient LED headlamps.

The Pulsar will be available in a range of turbocharged engines, including the 1.2-litre DIG-T 115PS petrol, the 1.5-litre dCi 110PS and the 1.6-litre 190PS petrol, the latter expected in early 2015.

Nissan says the Pulsar will offer best in class rear leg and shoulder room but its ‘compact footprint’ will make it easy to park in the city.

Designed for the European market, the Pulsar will be built in Barcelona.

The Nissan Pulsar is expected to go on sale in the autumn and Irish pricing and specification will be announced closer to lauch.
