A choice of two petrol and two diesel engine types will be available in the new Nissan Qashqai

The new Nissan Qashqai will be available in Ireland from February 1 next.

The new model is longer and slightly wider and lower than its predecessor, but retains its high driving position.

Passenger legroom and headroom has also been improved, and Nissan say it’s now easier to get into and out of the crossover.

The new model also has a bigger boot, which offers various configurations, depending on your luggage needs.

The new Qashqai is also the first model to carry the new NissanConnect system, which now has a 7” touchscreen and offers smartphone connectivity, including Bluetooth streaming. A range of apps are also on the way.

USB and Aux ports are also included, as is DAB radio.

Nissan says the reinvented model is ‘designed to make premium technology more accessible than ever’.

This includes Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Collision Avoidance, Driver Attention Support and Intelligent Park Assist.

Two petrol and two diesel models will be available, with the option of two- or four-wheel-drive and a choice of manual or the all-new Xtronic automatic transmissions.

Petrol options are the 1.2 DIG-T 115PS and the 1.6 DIG-T 150PS(arriving in autumn 2014), while the 1.5 dCi 110PS and the 1.6 dCi 130PS make up the diesel offering.

The Japanese car maker expects the front wheel drive variants will be most popular.

Prices and Irish specifications will be announced closer to launch.
