Opel is describing the new Opel Insignia as ‘the most aerodynamic hatch in the world’.

It arrives in Ireland next month, with prices starting from €24,995.

The car is available in a choice of diesel and petrol engines.

Opel says its new 2 litre 140ps turbo diesel is the most efficient in its class. It boasts fuel consumption of 3.7l/100k, with CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

A more powerful 163PS two litre diesel is also available.

    Meanwhile, Opel’s new generation 1.6 Turbo 170PS petrol engine (139g/km CO2) joins the 1.4 Turbo 140PS (123g/km CO2).

The new Opel Insignia also carries the IntelliLink infotainment system, which includes an 8-inch colour touchscreen, voice recognition, steering wheel mounted controls and a handwriting recognition touchpad.

Five trim levels are available in the new Insignia – S, SC, SE, SRi limited edition and Elite.

Standard features in the entry level S spec include air conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, 4.2” colour screen, USB and Aux ports, electric height adjustment and lumbar control on the driver’s seat, and electric parking brake with Hill Start Assist.

Prices start from €24,995 for the 1.4 Turbo petrol, with diesel prices starting from €26,995.
