From concept to production, the Opel Adam Rocks is expected on the road later this year

Opel is getting in on the mini-crossover market with the new Opel Adam Rocks, which debuts at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Rocks stands taller and wider than the Adam, and looks tougher too and it also has a full length electric canvas roof.

Like the Adam, the mini urban crossover also offers customisation options, starting with the new wheel clips.

New exterior paint includes the vibrant yellow Goldbusters.

And the interior debuted last year in the Adam Rocks concept car is one of two exclusive Rocks interior trims.

Opel describes the concept interior as elegant-sporty, with peanut coloured fabric/Morrocana seats and door panels, leather gearshift, steering wheel and handbrake and a Surf trim.

The second interior option has a coffee theme, with the Coffee Bean design featuring rich dark brown seats in a black cabin which is trimmed with blue stitching.

The folding canvas roof, meanwhile, will be available in three exterior colours – Black, Sweet Coffee or Light Oak – that link with the different roof colours.

The canvas roof folds in just five seconds and Opel says the boot space is not compromised by its presence.

Engine-wise, the Adam Rocks will be fitted with Opel’s new 1.0-litre ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo three-cylinder petrol engine, with 90PS or 115PS and six-speed manual transmission.

The fuel-saving Start/Stop system, which cuts the engine when the car is idling in traffic and automatically restarts when you take your foot off the brake, is standard.

Opel’s head of Carline Brand, Stuart Harris said: ‘Adam Rocks combines the toughness of a crossover with the coolness of open air driving.

‘It’s the perfect Adam for active drivers wanting to stand out from the crowd.’

The Opel Adam Rocks is expected to be available in the summer and pricing and Irish specification will be announced closer to launch.
