The Opel Adam, which is expected in Ireland in September, is aimed at the trendy city driver

Jam, Glam and Slam is how Opel hopes to win over trendy urban drivers to its new city car, the Opel Adam, which is due to reach Ireland early next year.

Opel promises to make each Adam unique, combining powerful design with an almost unlimited level of personalisation – cue Jam, Glam and Slam.

In the Adam, Opel is doing away with the traditional trim levels in favour of something altogether more trendy. Jam is ‘unconventional, fashionable and colourful’; Glam is ‘more elegant, refined and sophisticated’; while Slam goes for the sporty look.

A wide variety of interior and exterior options give scope to personalise the Adam, including an LED lit ‘starlight’ roof trim.

Adam also makes extensive use of smartphone integration, collecting content from the phone and displaying it on the 7”, high resolution touch screen. Adam will also be able to park itself.

Mark Adams, Opel Vice President, Design said: ‘No other car in this segment can be personalised as much as the Opel ADAM because we are offering virtually unlimited exterior/interior color, fabric, decor and kit combination possibilities.

‘It’s unlikely our customers will see another car like theirs.’

The four-seater Opel Adam will initially be available in three petrol engines, a 1.2l 70hp; 1.4l 87hp and a 1.4l 100hp. All three will have a five speed manual gearbox.

A six-speed direct injection turbocharged petrol engine will follow.

The Opel Adam will premier at the Paris Motor Show in the autumn and will reach Irish showrooms in January 2013.

Prices have yet to be announced.
