‘Sculptural artistry meets German precision’ has borne fruit for Opel as the Astra GTC has been named the winner of the prestigious red dot design award in the product design category.
The 30-member international judging panel said the Astra GTC impressed it with its ‘distinctive and sporty formal language’.
It added: ‘A particularly striking feature is the panoramic windscreen (without cross-member), which allows for a nearly unlimited field of vision for all passengers.’
Vice President of Opel Design, Mark Adams said: ‘We are very proud to have won this award. This is further proof that our Opel design philosophy of ‘sculptural artistry meets German precision’ has enormous potential.
‘It is also evidence that customers and industry experts alike appreciate its value in how it helps communicate our brand values.’
Around 1,800 companies and designers from 58 countries took part in this year’s design contest, submitting 4,515 products in 19 different categories.
Opel is no stranger to the red dot awards, having previously won for the Opel Flextreme GT/E Concept, the Astra Sports Tourer, the Insignia, the Opel GT and older Astra models.
