Seat’s compact SUV might look a little something like this – the prototype model

Seat has announced plans to add a compact SUV to its lineup.

Although details of the new model are sketchy, the company has released a prototype image.

The new model is expected to launch in 2016.

Seat said its move into the compact SUV market ‘highlights the company’s consistent commitment to product development’.

Director of Seat Ireland, Cian O’Brien said: ‘This is another serious breakthrough for Seat and underlines the brand’s determination.

‘The SUV is an integral part of our future strategy and will be a major step forward towards achieving sustained profitability.’

It has been a successful couple of years for Seat Ireland, which finished 2013 with a record three per cent market share.

It revealed that it has started 2014 with a 20 per cent increase in sales year on year.

The compact SUV announcement follows the launch this year of the Seat Leon Cupra and the Seat Leon Sports Tourer.
