Korean car manufacturer SsangYong has re-entered the Irish market with the SsangYong Korando crossover.

The family-friendly compact SUV was designed by noted Italian stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro (he of Ferrari and Lamborghini) and Ssangyong believes it is one of the best looking cars in its class, as well as representing ‘outstanding value’.

Three trim levels of the SsangYong Korando are available in Ireland, S, E or L and all carry a 2.0-litre 149bhp diesel engine.

It can accelerate from 0-100kph in 9.9 seconds and has a two tonne towing capability. It sits in the €390 annual road tax band.

Cruise control, air conditioning, Bluetooth, and ESP with Hill Start Assist are standard on the entry level S model. Upgrade to E or L and you also get leather upholstery, climate control and heated seats.

Prices for the new SsangYong Korando start from €25,995.

A new SsangYong Rodius people carrier and the seven-seat Rexton W are also on the way.

A spokesman for SsangYong Motors Ireland said: ‘We strongly believe that the new SsangYong range is relevant to the Irish car driver and the brand will become a well known name on Irish roads.

‘In terms of practicality, efficiency, luxury and value for money, this new range can definitely compete with the best.’
