Volkswagen has said it has no plans for the Volkswagen Golf R 400 to become a production model

Sketches have been released of the Volkswagen Golf R 400 concept car ahead of its debut at the Beijing Auto Show.

The German car maker describes the Golf R 400 as ‘an even more extreme concept version of the already powerful Golf R hatchback’.

As the Golf R 400’s name suggests, power is at 400PS, an increase of 100PS on the Golf R.

A four-wheel drive, the DSG-equipped (automatic) Golf R 400 is a second faster than the Golf R, accelerating from 0-100kph in 3.9seconds. It has a top speed of 280kph.

On top of power increasing engine modifications, the R 400 also has bumper and body modifications, uprated wheels and flared wheel arches.

Inside, the reworked interior features motorsport shell seats with integral belt openings and head restraints.

Volkswagen said the flared wheel arches are ‘deliberately reminiscent of those on the 1988 Rallye Golf G60’.

The concept car carries a gloss black roof and carbon door mirror caps, with the rest of it painted in Silver Flake metallic.

A Lemon Yellow theme is carried through the car, with a horizontal stripe across the grille continuing into the bi-xenon headlights. Stitching in the inside of the car is also Lemon Yellow.

The Golf R 400 concept car will be unveiled in China this week but Volkswagen say there are no plans to put it into production.
