Only 40 units of the special edition Skoda Superb L&K model are available in Ireland

Who needs a limo when you can have a Skoda Superb, especially if that Superb is the L&K variant.

The Skoda Superb is a very aptly named car – superbly specced and a car I enjoyed when I drove it last year.

In fact, you might think that Skoda would be hard pressed to improve it….but that they have managed to do, and kept the price under €40,000.

The Skoda Superb L&K has been launched to honour the Czech car manufacturer’s founders, Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement, and only 40 cars are available in Ireland.

The Skoda Superb L&K has a luxurious brown leather interior

Essentially, it’s the top of the range Elegance model, with even more luxuries.

The Superb is a very stately looking car and great for occasions simply because of its luxury and the massive interior space – you can’t reach around and touch the back seat from the front.

The Skoda Superb L&K special edition model I was driving had a beautiful brown leather interior, with L&K embossed on the rear centre armrest and engraved on the door sill strips.

All of the seats were heated and the front ones were electric, with memory settings on the driver’s seat.

Cruise control; electric windows; auto lights and wipers; SatNav; touch screen radio/CD/Aux, climatronic air conditioning and front fog lights with cornering function were all fitted on the test car and the rear windows were tinted. The car also had a button start and keyless entry.

Although the stereo sounded great (it has 10 speakers), there was no USB port, which I missed.

Looking good! The Skoda Superb L&K test car in its wedding outfit

I had the Skoda Superb L&K for a wedding, where I was charged with transporting the two bridesmaids and all their paraphernalia.

It was great because they didn’t have to worry about their dresses getting crushed and the massive boot held all our luggage, as well as their bits and bobs so their leg room wasn’t restricted.

In fact, it’s a car worthy of a bride.

I found the six-speed 2.0-litre diesel 170bhp excellent to drive. It has a nice bit of poke in it and a peppy engine.

Acceleration was superb on the open road, with a lovely long stretch between gear changes. It was also very fast at the lights and handled the more challenging country roads with ease.

The boot in the Skoda Superb L&K is absolutely massive

The Skoda Superb L&K is a very big car but the front and rear parking sensors, as well as the on-screen distance monitor, made it easy to manoeuver. The wing mirrors also turn down when you put the car into reverse, which was a very handy feature.

Overall, I loved driving the Skoda Superb L&K. It’s a stunningly luxurious car and, despite its reserved looks, is great fun to drive.

The Skoda Superb L&K is available now, with the limousine (saloon) model I was driving starting from €36,645. A combi (estate) version is also available. Prices for the Skoda Superb start from €28,795.
