The Toyota Verso is a big but not imposing looking seven seater

The new Toyota Verso was one of two new family cars the Japanese car maker launched to the Irish market yesterday, along with the seven-seater full hybrid Toyota Prius+.

Toyota says the new Verso offers customers ‘greater levels of style, dynamism, comfort and desirability to make it a compelling, no-compromise compact C-segment MPV choice’.

One of the first things you notice when you sit into the new Verso is that it has a hybrid style centralised instrument panel, even though it’s not a hybrid.

The seven-seat Luna SkyView grade model I was driving is a big, but not imposing looking car. I liked the glass roof which gives it its SkyView tag.

I also really liked the high driving seat position, and that you weren’t high off the ground when you stepped out of the car.

The new Verso has 32 seating configurations and is very similar to the Toyota Prius+. Extra luggage space can be gained by lowering the seats.

I took the six-speed 2-litre diesel test car for a quick spin around the south Dublin suburbs and found that it was smooth on the road with nice gear changes. I am looking forward to putting it through its paces on a wider variety of roads though.

Three trim levels are available for the Toyota Verso, the newly introduced five-seat Terra trim and the seven seat Aura and Luna SkyView trims.

SkyView, cruise control, rear reversing camera, touch screen infotainment unit and Bluetooth are standard on the top of the range Luna Skyview I was driving.

Prices for the Toyota Verso start from €25,460 for the five-seat Terra. The seven-seat Luna Skyview I was driving costs from €30,995.

Meanwhile, specification level on the five-seat Toyota Verso-S has been enhanced for 2013, with rear privacy glass, cruise control and a SkyView panoramic roof now standard on the renamed Luna SkyView trim. Prices for that grade start from €21,595, with entry level pricing starting from €17,995.
