Self-cleaning cars by 2020

If washing your car is a chore or minor scratches on your car’s paintwork really annoy you, then a group of Dutch scientists have some good news for you.
A team working on this issue at the Eindhoven University of Technology have developed a new coating which they believe will lead to self-cleaning cars, as rain water would roll off the surface, taking the dirt with it.
A car with this coating would also be scratch resistant.
The coating also has wider applications, such as keeping touch screen mobile phones fingerprint-free, self-repairing contact lenses and cleaner aircraft, which in turn reduces fuel consumption.
Researcher Catarina Esteves believes the coating could be available within eight years.
