Former F1 World Champion Jenson Button will do three circuits of the track, one in the McLaren MP4 Supercar at 12:20 and two in his Vodafone McLaren F1 Car at 13:20 & 14:35

Dublin city centre will be no place for Sunday drivers on June 3 – at least not those behind the wheel anyway as a host of motor track stars will be whizzing around the city streets as part of Bavaria City Racing.

More than 100,000 people are expected in the city centre on Sunday to witness F1 legend Jenson Button and others take on the Dublin track.

This is the first time the highly popular European event will be held in Dublin but it has previously been hosted in Rotterdam and Moscow.

The track starts at the Convention Centre, continues along Customs House Quay, then across Butt Bridge, up D’Olier Street, across College Green and the Central Bank before reaching the chequered flag on O’Connell Bridge. A number of city centre roads will be closed to facilitate the event.

Bavaria City Racing Dublin will provide five hours of non-stop entertainment in the city centre on Sunday, with track events starting at noon.

Spectators will be able to see moves from an impressive list of international and home grown F1 and motorsport talent, including Jenson Button for the Vodafone McLaren F1 team, Giedo Van Der Garde from the Caterham F1 team, Motorsport Ireland’s Young Driver of the Year, Dubliner Aron Smith and Formula Sheane star Jennifer Mullan.

The Spyker Le Mans team will also be in Dublin for the event, as will Aprilia World Superbike racer Eugene Laverty and Eugene Donnelly from the World Rally Championship, to name but a few.

2012 Seat Leon Cupra R Bavarian Safety Car

Seat Ireland will be setting the pace at this weekend’s event with the Seat Leon Cupra R being used as both safety and pace cars and the Seat Exeo ST acting as a Medic support vehicle.

The event is expected to be worth more than €10million to the capital. Event Ambassador for Bavaria City Racing Dublin, Eddie Jordan said: ‘This will be a very special event and the potential for Dublin to show off its beauty and uniqueness to a massive international audience is huge.

‘People will travel from all over Europe to attend the event and we have an opportunity to really capitalise on this opportunity if we grab it with both hands and showcase Dublin and Ireland as a modern European city with its own unique people, culture and history.’

John Morris, Managing Director of Mondello Park, is the Race Director for Bavaria City Racing Dublin. He said: ‘Bavaria City Racing is unique in motorsport in that it creates a safe, controlled environment that allows the public to enjoy Formula 1 for free.

‘The non-competitive demonstration format which has been perfected over seven successful years of running the event in Rotterdam creates a safe and enjoyable experience for all spectators.’

However, Bavaria City Racing is not just for motor sport enthusiasts, there are also a number of track side zones, including the Family Zone, the Gaming Zone, the Fashion & Beauty Zone, the Vodafone F1 Zone and the Monster Energy Zone. The event is not suitable for children under six because of the noise levels and spectators are also advised not to bring pets.

In general, the event is free, but tickets can still be purchased for the F1 Paddock and Custom House Performance zone to get closer to the action.

Bavaria City Racing is advising spectators to arrive between 10.30am and 11am to secure a good viewing position and to bring sunscreen.
