Fiat Group Automobiles and Mazda are teaming up to build a new roadster.

If the partnership proves successful, the companies will develop two lightweight, rear-wheel drive, two-seater vehicles with each manufacturer showcasing its own design language and powertrain options.

Both models will be manufactured at Mazda’s Hiroshima plant in Japan with production for the new Alfa Romeo, which is Fiat’s offering, expected to begin in 2015.
