The all new Range Rover is expected to be available in Ireland in January

Wading through a 1-metre deep water pool and climbing a rocky causeway were two of the challenges the all new Range Rover overcame at its official reveal last night.

In the new Range Rover, Land Rover believes it has created ‘the world’s most refined and capable SUV’.

Built from lightweight aluminium, the new Range Rover offers better fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

It is also the most aerodynamic Range Rover ever.

Inside, the luxurious leather cabin is contemporary, but retains the characteristic architectural forms synonymous with Range Rover.

Legroom has been increased by 118mm, offering even more comfort for rear seat passengers. There’s also the option of the two-seat Executive Class rear seating package.

A bespoke interior can be achieved, with a wide range of colours, finishes and special details.

Land Rover claims the new Range Rover is the ‘most refined and and most capable’ model ever, delivering ‘swift and effortless performance’.

A choice of a petrol 510PS LR-V8 Supercharged, plus two diesel (3.0-litre 258PS TDV6 and 4.4-litre 339PS SDV8) engines will be on offer in the new Range Rover. These will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

A state-of-the-art diesel hybrid model will follow later in 2013.

Range Rover’s unique Command Driving Position is also in evidence in the new model, offering an elevated, upright driving position, which is typically 90mm higher than that of other premium SUVs.

Land Rover says the new Range Rover’s lightweight structure allows the 510PS LR-V8 Supercharged model to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 5.1 seconds, 0.8 seconds faster than the outgoing model. Fuel consumption has also been cut by nine per cent.

Driver technologies on offer in the new Range Rover include park assist, adaptive cruise control, intelligent emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and surround camera system.

Speaking at the launch, Land Rover Global Brand Director, John Edwards said: ‘The new Range Rover preserves the essential, unique character of the vehicle – that special blend of luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability.

‘However, its clean sheet design and revolutionary lightweight construction have enabled us to transform the experience for luxury vehicle customers, with a step change in comfort, refinement and handling.’

The new Range Rover is expected to launch in Ireland in January, with prices and specifications to be announced closer to that date.
