The new Citroën DS3 Cabrio has the same cabin space and weighs just 25 per cent more than the DS3 hatchback

The DS3 Cabrio, Citroën’s new soft top convertible, will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show.

A cabrio version of the much lauded DS3, the new convertible is the only adult five-seater in its class. The boot, at 245-litres, is also the best in its class.

It also offers the same cabin space as the DS3 hatchback and features the same 60/40 split-folding rear bench.

Citroën says the roof, which can be personalised, takes just 16 seconds to fully close, up to motorway speeds of 120kph. The roof can be opened to three positions, intermediate, horizontal and total.

The French car-maker is also very confident of the soundproofing in the DS3 Cabriolet, claiming the quality the soft top material offers is comparable to that of a hatchback when it is closed.

On the move, acoustics are also looked after, with Citroën saying an aerodynamic deflector net provides excellent comfort by deflecting air currents and preventing air buffeting.

The soft-top roof will be available in three designs – black, Infinite blue and a DS Monogrammed design and the DS3 Cabrio will be available in six colours – grey, Brilliant black, white, Carbotech, Infinite blue and Moondust grey.

The rear of the DS3 Cabrio also features a 3D LED signature, which will light up at night when the headlamps are on and during the day during braking.

In a statement, Citroën said: ‘The same rigidity, strength and agility as the hatchback are retained with identical architecture for the sides and structural reinforcements around the boot. The model’s handling remains eager and pleasurable whilst maintaining the same high levels of comfort, control and safety.’

The new Citroën DS3 Cabrio is expected to be available in early 2013.
