The 1.0litre EcoBoost engine will be available in the Ford C-Max in the autumn

The award-winning Ford EcoBoost 1.0litre engine will be available in the Ford C-Max and the Ford Grand C-Max from October, Ford Europe has announced.

Both a 100PS and a 125PS power option will be on offer.

The Ford C-Max 1.0litre EcoBoost is expected to deliver fuel economy of 5.1l/100km and 117g/km CO2 across both power options.

Meanwhile, the Grand C-Max should offer 5.2l/100 km, with 119g/km CO2 – putting both models into tax band A.

The technology in the EcoBoost engine, which recently won International Engine of the Year, allows it to deliver the power of a larger engine with the fuel consumption of a smaller one.

A quarter of the customers buying a Ford Focus during the EcoBoost option’s first full month on sale chose it over the normal engine.

Ford reckons that by 2015 more than half of its European sales will be powered by EcoBoost engines, which will also be available in 1.6litre and 2.0litre displacement.

Vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe, Roelant de Waard said: ‘People love this engine – it puts a smile on your face when you drive and it’s amazingly fuel efficient.’

He added: ‘It’s already very popular on the new Focus, so it makes a lot of sense to offer in the C-Max and Grand C-Max as soon as possible.’

The updated C-Max and Grand C-Max will also offer in-car connectivity system SYNC with Emergency Assistance; and advanced driver assistance technologies such as Traffic Sign Recognition, Active City Stop, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Aid, and Driver Alert.

A new Burnished Glow colour will also be available.
