Honda is claiming class-leading status for the new Honda Civic Tourer in the areas of load space, fuel-efficiency, equipment and style.

The new model is expected in Ireland next month and Honda says it will ‘shake up’ the estate sector.

Honda says the Civic Tourer is the most compact and lowest estate in its segment and is just 235mm longer than the hatchback model.

With 624 litres of boot space, the rear seats can be folded to yield a flat load area and increase capacity to 1,668 litres, it says.

The Honda Civic Tourer also carries the Adaptive Damper System, which adjusts the rear suspension for load and driving conditions and improves comfort and stability.

Honda’s Dynamic Safety Pack suite of safety technology will be available as an option. This includes the city-brake active system, which prevents low speed fender benders; forward collision warning; lane departure warning; blind spot monitor; traffic sign recognition system, and cross traffic monitor.

Two engine types will be available, the new 1.6 i-DTEC and a 1.8 i-VTEC petrol engine, in a choice of manual or automatic transmission.

The three trim levels are Comfort, Sport and Executive.

Honda says the standard equipment in the entry level Comfort trim is best in class. It includes Bluetooth, climate control, electric windows, stop and start technology, a premium audio system with DAB, daytime running lights, alloys and an alarm.

Move up to the Sport trim and you get cruise control with speed limiter, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera, automatic lights and wipers and dual zone climate control.

Heated front seats, full leather upholstery, DVD SatNav, privacy glass, 6.5in touchscreen and adaptive damper system are standard in the top of the range Executive trim.

Managing Director of Universal Honda Ltd, Adrian Cole, said: ‘The New Civic Tourer is a unique car, in that the sleek and compact exterior hides an interior that is one of the most spacious of any estate car on the market.

‘Match this style and space to our new Earth Dreams Technology engines and Civic Tourer is also one of the most economical estate cars on the road.’

Prices for the new Honda Civic Tourer will be announced closer to its launch.
