Ford’s Fully Assisted Parking Aid system should put an end to parking woes

It’s happened to all of us – it’s the last space in the car park and while you can get into the space, you can’t open the door, or worse still, you return to find cars so tightly parked beside your’s that you can’t get into it.

Now Ford has a solution – and you don’t even have to be in the car to activate it.

Taking self parking a step further, Ford’s Fully Assisted Parking Aid system takes over steering, acceleration and brake and can be remotely controlled at the push of a button.

Still at prototype stage, it was one of a number of new technologies unveiled at the Ford Futures event.

Ford also released details of its obstacle avoidance system which alerts drivers to slow-moving traffic, pedestrians or stationary obstacles in the lane ahead and acts if the driver fails to do so.

Vice president Product Development, Ford of Europe, Barb Samardzich said: ‘The future for Ford means developing innovative products and technologies – including Fully Assisted Parking Aid and Obstacle Avoidance – that help deliver a safer, more convenient, more desirable, more personalised and greener driving and ownership experience.’
