The Kia Sportage was the only car to win top marks across all categories

The Kia Sportage has rocketed to the top of the JD Power-WhatCar? owner satisfaction survey.

With a score of 83.8%, the Sportage pipped the Jaguar XF at the post, beating it into second place on 83.4%. It was up 15 places on the previous survey, however.

There was also good news for the Toyota Prius, its drivers gave it a satisfaction rating of 83%, up 2 places. The Skoda Superb, at 82.7%, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class at 82.2% rounded off the top five.

The online survey of nearly 18,000 UK drivers with cars between one and three years of age was rated on four sections: vehicle quality and reliability, vehicle appeal, service satisfaction and ownership costs.

The Kia Sportage was the only car to get five stars across all categories.

There was more good news for Jaguar – it was rated best manufacturer, knocking Lexus off the top spot. Skoda, Honda and Mercedes-Benz rounded off the top five in that category.

The Toyota IQ won the city car category; the Honda Jazz took the top spot in the Superminis category and the Skoda Octavia was top dog in the small family car section.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Prius got the top owner satisfaction rating in the family car category; the Lexus IS got the thumbs up in the compact executive car section and the Jaguar XF won the executive category.

The Volkswagen Scirocco was rated the best sports/cabrio car; the Mercedes-Benz B Class won the SUV category; the Kia Sportage took the Compact SUV crown and there was another win for Lexus in the SUV section, where the Lexus RX took the top spot.
