The new Mercedes-Benz V-Class is expected in Ireland early next year

Mercedes-Benz hopes to broaden the appeal of the new Mercedes-Benz V-Class to large families ‘with pets and paraphernalia’ as well as to surfboard toting, hand gliding urban adventurers.

The V-Class in its old guise, the Viano, is already a favourite with shuttle bus operators and Mercedes-Benz hopes that the new model’s luxury features will attract non-traditional buyers.

It says that improved exterior looks, a more spacious interior, as well as ‘high class features’ will ‘rise it beyond the purely practical and into the realm of luxury one normally associates with mainstream Mercedes-Benz models’.

It describes the V-Class as ‘a true multi-purpose vehicle with oodles of room inside for passengers and cargo’. It also has loads of overhead storage for luggage boxes, as well as rooftop racking.

The four rear seats can be configured to allow for ‘comfortable overnight sleeping’. They can also be removed to optimise space or folded forward to make access easier.

Infotainment options include surround sound, DVD player, internet access and a multimedia system with 80GB capacity.

Available safety features and driving aids are drowsiness alert, blind spot monitor, parking assist and 360 degree collision prevention assist.

A choice of three body lengths will be available – Compact, Long and Extra Long – and three 2-litre four-cylinder diesel engines.

The new Mercedes-Benz V-Class is expected in Ireland early next year and full pricing and Irish specifications will be announced closer to the launch.

Mercedes-Benz Ireland sales manager, Ciaran Allen said: ‘Despite its improved design, enhanced specifications and numerous technical advancements, we expect to introduce the new V-Class at prices no more than modestly above current levels [from €52,690].’
