The new Ford Fiesta should reach Ireland by the end of the year

Combining its sporty looks with added sophistication, as well as creating a ‘harmonious and ergonomically optimised interior’ were the tasks at hand for the designers of the new look Ford Fiesta.

Unveiled to Ford dealers at the Detroit company’s Go Further event, the redesigned Fiesta also follows Ford’s ethos of ‘democratising technology’, which basically means bringing advanced technology features across its range of cars.

The new Fiesta will feature Active City Stop, to prevent fender benders, and the SYNC in-car connectivity system will also be available.

The Fiesta has also been chosen for the European debut of the MyKey feature, which allows maximum speed and volume limits to be set and mutes the audio system until seat belts are tied. This feature, Ford believes, will be of particular interest to parents of teenage and inexperienced drivers.

The new Ford Fiesta will be powered by the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, which is expected to deliver best in class fuel economy.

Executive design director, Ford of Europe, Martin Smith said: ‘Fiesta has been one of the world’s best-loved small cars across five decades, and the sporty appeal of the last generation Fiesta inspired real passion among global compact car customers, contributing to its status as the world’s most successful small car.

‘We had to keep that vital part of Fiesta’s make-up – but we also wanted to give it a more sophisticated look.’

The new Ford Fiesta is expected to be available in Ireland towards the end of this year. Further details will be announced at the Paris Motor Show later this month.
