The new Volkswagen Golf GTI should be available in Ireland in June

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is being debuted at the Geneva Motor Show next week, is expected in Ireland in June.

Powered by a 2-litre turbocharged petrol direct-injection engine (TSI) with 220ps, the new Volkswagen Golf GTI has a top speed of 246kph and can accelerate from 0-100kph in 6.5seconds.

Volkswagen says the new Golf GTI is 18 per cent more fuel efficient than the outgoing model, aided by stop-start technology, and puts fuel efficiency in the six-speed manual model at 6.0l/100km. Emissions of 139g/km puts annual road tax at €280.

Outside, the sporty nature of the GTI is expressed through its red brake callipers, sports suspension and two chrome tailpipes. Side sills and 17” Brooklyn GTI wheels further enhance this image.

Inside, drivers can look forward to red ambience lighting, tartan patterned sports seats and a black roofliner.

The cockpit features a leather sport multi-function steering wheel; GTI gear knob and instrument cluster.

Three body colours will be available in Ireland – Pure White, Black and Tornado Red.

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI will be in Irish dealerships in June, with prices starting from €33,595.
