Prices for the new Volkswagen Golf start from just under €20,000

The all new Volkswagen Golf will arrive in Ireland in December, with prices starting from €19,995.

Volkswagen says the new model is lighter, more advanced, safer, bigger, more efficient and better equipped than its predecessor.

The new Golf will be available here in three trim levels at launch – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, with the GTD, GTI and BlueMotion to follow next year.

Five engine types will be available – three petrol and two diesel. The €19,995 price tag applies to the entry level Trendline three-door 1.2-litre 85bph petrol model. Prices for the diesel models start at €22,695 for the 1.6-litre 105bhp TDI model, which has CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

A Stop/Start system, which cuts the engine when you’re sitting in traffic, comes as standard on all new Golf models.

A five-inch colour touchscreen, radio and an MP3 compatible CD drive, with CD slot is standard on the entry level Trendline model, as is Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning and an electronic parking brake.

Lane assist, park assist, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and a panoramic sunroof will be available as options.

A mix of five- and six-speed manual gearboxes, as well as six- and seven-speed automatic units will be available.

Orders for the new Golf will be taken from the middle of this month, with the first cars due to arrive in time for Christmas.
