Opel hopes to ‘provide freedom beyond the constraints of city limits and urban roads’ with the new Opel Insignia Country Tourer, which will make its world debut later this year.
Different to its Sports Tourer estate sibling, the all wheel drive Country Tourer has SUV characteristics, with ground clearance 20mm higher than normal.
Two engine choices will be available – a 2.0-litre 250hp SIDI direct injection petrol unit and a 2.0-litre 163hp CDTi diesel. Both will be available in six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
As well as offering better grip in snow or slippy conditions, in more clement conditions the adaptive all wheel drive system reverts to front-wheel drive, resulting in fuel saving.
Opel Ireland managing director, Dave Sheeran said: ‘The new Insignia Country Tourer enables us to offer customers a sporty alternative in the larger, mid-size class.
‘We’re confident the Insignia Country Tourer will be a great addition and will attract new customers to our brand because it combines athletic appeal and German engineering at an affordable price.’
The new Opel Insignia Country Tourer will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Further details will be announced at that time.
