Peugeot has announced that it is to launch a GTi hot hatch version of the new 208 supermini next spring.
Putting out 200bhp, the six-speed manual turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine can go from 0-100kph in less than seven seconds, according to Peugeot.
Visually, the three-door GTi version will feature a 10mm wider front and 20mm wider back, as well as new headlamps, side sills and a new grille with chrome inserts.
Black leather upholstery inside features red stitching, and the two-tone motif is carried through on the seats and the dash.
208 GTi product manager, Marie Beaumont said: ‘The 208 was an excellent base for developing a sports hatchback.
‘We have worked with particular attention on the steering response, the chassis dynamics and the rigidity of the suspension. The 208 GTi successfully combines performance, safety and driving pleasure.’
Final specifications and prices for the Irish market will be announced closer to launch.
