The Skoda Octavia Combi RS is expected in Ireland in late July

Skoda hopes to bring a high performance car to a family driver with the new Skoda Octavia Combi RS, which will be available in Ireland next month.

The Czech manufacturer believes the new estate model is the ‘perfect combination of sportiness, space and functionality’.

It will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options, with the 2.0 TDI 184bhp diesel expected to be the volume seller in Ireland. Skoda will also offer a 2.0 TSI 220bhp petrol variant.

A six-speed manual transmission is standard, with a DSG automatic transmission also available.

The new Octavia RS has a top speed of 248kph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Stop-start and brake energy regeneration are also standard in the new model, and Skoda says the new engines are more powerful, but consume up to 19 per cent less fuel.

It will also be equipped with sports seats, 18” alloy wheels, LED lights and twin exhausts.

Skoda Ireland head of marketing, Raymond Leddy said: ‘The Octavia RS has always been a very unique proposition, we would all love to drive sporty high performance vehicles but are prevented from doing so because we assume they are unpractical and are expensive to run and purchase.

‘The RS expels these myths with exceptional luggage and interior spaciousness and fuel economy from just 4.6 l/100km.’

The new Skoda Octavia will initially be available as a Combi, with a hatchback arriving in September.

Prices will be announced closer to launch, but are expected to start from around €32,495 for the 2.0 TDI 184bhp hatchback.
