The Toyota GT86 will be available in both manual and automatic models

Toyota has returned to the sports car market with the GT86, a compact four seater that has been designed specifically for motorists for whom driving is a passion rather than a necessity.

An entirely driver-oriented vehicle, the GT86 was designed with a ‘viewed from the inside out’ approach – its bold front wings are visible through the windscreen and likewise, the rear wings through the wing mirrors.

The GT86 has a rear-wheel drive format, no turbocharging and ordinary tyres, factors Toyota believes will make it an affordable and accessible car for driving enthusiasts.

Managing director of Toyota Ireland, David Shannon said: ‘The GT86 was designed to be very much a “driver’s car” and we’re confident that even the most demanding car enthusiast will be impressed by the driving experience it offers.

‘Toyota has an undeniably strong heritage in the creation of world class sports cars and the GT86 truly represents an exciting new chapter in this legacy.’

The Toyota GT86 will be available in Ireland from next month, with prices starting from €39,895. Both manual and automatic versions of the car will be on offer.
