Volvo is hoping to attract younger drivers with the new Volvo V40 R-Design, which launches at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

Volvo’s Lex Kerssemakers says the new model is aimed ‘at performance-minded individuals with a passion for those things that add extra spice to life’.

The R-Design front features a silk-metal framed high gloss grille with a new look front bumper and daytime running lights.

The sporty look is enhanced with an ironside diffuser at the back, as well as twin exhaust tailpipes, silk-metal finished details and 17” alloys, as standard.

Meanwhile, inside there’s embossed R-Design leather/T-Tec upholstery, sports steering wheel, sports pedals and TFT instrument display.

Launching in Rebel Blue, the Volvo V40 R-Design will ultimately be available in seven colours.

The R-Design will be available with the all-new Volvo V40 engines, from the D2 (115hp) diesel, to the T3 (150hp) petrol turbo.

An optional sports chassis, which sits 10mm lower than the Dynamic chassis, has also been developed, in association with Swedish racing driver Robert Dahlgren of the Volvo Polestar Black R team.

Senior Vice President Research and Development at Volvo Car Corporation, Peter Mertens said: ‘The V40 R-Design is agile, responsive and fun to drive. Both chassis offer the enthusiastic driver a feeling of total control.

‘You get both that connected response that makes a winding country road so much fun as well as the precise, nimble moves it takes to stay on top of busy urban traffic.’

Prices will be announced next month, when dealers will start taking orders, for January delivery.
