Mercedes-Benz is going for youthful appeal in the new A-Class, which is due to reach Ireland in December.

Distinctly different from the model it replaces, the new A-Class has a low slung, sleeker and more aerodynamic body, with a sharper, more defined appearance all round.

The car will be available in three trims, each with a high quality interior.

The instrument panel has two large round dials with smaller dial inserts with pointers coloured in sporty red.

A free-standing display and three-spoke steering wheel with 12 function buttons, are amongst its standard or optional features, depending on the model choice.

Another high-tech option is the car’s iPhone capability, which allows owners to access e-mails, apps, tweets, advanced navigation information and other services that smart phones can deliver.

Low-emission diesel and petrol engines will be available, with outputs from 109 to 211bhp. An ECO start/stop function, which is standard across the range, will help to reduce fuel consumption by more than a third.

Mercedes-Benz believes the 109bhp A180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY diesel, with emissions of just 98g/km, will be the most popular among Irish buyers. A six-speed manual transmission will be available, with 7G dual clutch automatic as an option.

Prices for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be announced closer to the launch but Ireland Sales Manager Ciaran Allen said they will be competitive, taking ‘due account of the economic climate in Ireland at this time’.
